The reality of zero-waste family life with Anita Vandyke

It was 2018 last time I chatted with today’s guest - rocket scientist, medical student and zero-waste advocate, Anita Vandyke. And while a lot has changed in the years since (Anita is now a mum, a junior doctor, a homeowner and two-time author) I was really curious to dig in to the realities of zero-waste living amongst the fullness of family life.

Anita is really clear about her personal zero-waste philosophy: not only does it apply to food, packaging and the things we own, it also applies to the precious resource that is our own time. That is, in order for zero-waste living to be sustainable, it needs to be sustainable for you and your family.

We also dig in to Anita’s experience of perfectionism and burnout - not only in the sustainability world, but as a busy junior doctor, mother of a young child, partner, daughter, friend and activist. She shares a lot of really practical tools that help her strike some semblance of balance, while also admitting that balance is really hard to come by.

To round out our chat, I gush about Anita’s exceptional second-hand wardrobe and she shares some of her tips for getting the most out of your op-shopping efforts. It’s an all-round great chat!
